Questions for Candidates running for Office in Georgia

The following list of questions were put together for a House race in Forsyth County, and we thought they might come in handy as you meet candidates this election season.  As will anything you find on this website, feel free to use any or all, in any form, with or without credit.

  • Why are you running for office?
  • Have you been a delegate for your party to a County, State or National convention?
  • How many times did you visit the state Capitol last session?
  • When is the Georgia legislature in session?
  • How many State Representatives and State Senators are there?
  • How many times did you speak with your State Representative and Senator last session?
  • Do you know your county commissioner?
  • Tell me what you know about the fair tax and how it might benefit Georgia.  Would you support Georgia passing its own version?
  • Would you be in favor of eliminating Georgia’s income tax, and, if so, how would you fund the State Government?
  • Should the state of Georgia force e-retailers to either collect sales taxes or report their sales to the Department of Revenue?
  • Do you believe the State of Georgia should give tax breaks to certain corporations that are not available to every corporation?
  • Are you in favor of Georgia passing a version of RFRA similar to that passed in over 20 other states?
  • Would you be in favor of an English Only amendment to the Georgia Constitution?
  • What is your opinion of DACA?
  • If the City of Atlanta passes a Sanctuary City law what action can and should the State take in response?
  • Would you support barring funding from any college or university that fails to follow federal immigration law or declares itself a “sanctuary campus.”?

  • The City of Atlanta has reduced penalties for possession of 1 oz or less of marijuana.  What is your opinion on decriminalization of the drug?

  • What is your opinion of House Bill 156 which would make Georgia’s weapons permits strictly voluntary and allow anyone to carry concealed weapons without a permit?
  • Would you be in favor of allowing casino gambling in Georgia?
  • Would you like to allow private adoption agencies that receive public money to refuse to place children with LGBT families?
  • One in four of Georgia!s children live in poverty. What role should the state play in reducing this rate?
  • Do you believe that reports of felony sexual assaults on Georgia college campuses made to campus officials be forwarded to law enforcement?

  • Are you in favor of allowing local governments to let restaurants serve alcohol on Sundays?
